What my students made at ATI

When it finally came time for our showing I was too busy talking with my hands to take any pictures. All of the images on this page were taken by my boss Jenifer.

ATI - Final Day

The final day is upon us! We have just the morning to get our panels together. We feverishly assemble, solder then putty to increasingly faster music. After lunch we attend the group presentations of the other majors to see what everyone has accomplished during the week.

ATI Day 4

Today was the crunch day. We started with a lecture on Silver Stain then began adding color to our panels. Students also learned to apply transparent enamels. The goal was to get the panels leaded up by nightfall.  During the open studio in the evening I showed 1000 images from my trip to a glass conference I attended in Lisbon, Portugal. Refreshments were provided by Robin Middleman. A busy day tomorrow - final presentations begin at 1PM - yikes!

ATI Day 3

Students added additional matts to their pieces in the morning. After the lunch break we took a field trip to my studio at Wheaton Arts, Millville to make fused glass pieces for the corners of our panels.
Now that's a full kiln!

ATI Day 2

The Second day of studio work begins with a demo on Matting. This technique is used to lay down a ground of pigment which is then subtracted from - like scratch board - to create the illusion of tonal dimension.

ATI Day 1

Morning Lecture Session

It's not just the window but the projected light as well.
Here are some examples of the students work at the end of the first day. We covered mixing and applying glass pigment using a tracing brush.
